The Limon Leader, JOHNSON - Ida Maxine Johnson passed away March 9, 2001, at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, Colorado at the age of 71. Born on April 8, 1929, at Thurman, Colorado, Ida was the second daughter of John and Mary Hoffman. Her early years were spent on the family farm northwest of Thurman through the eighth grade.

On April 20, 1952, Ida was united in marriage with Erik Christian Johnson at her aunt Alma Widam's farm near Anton. Erik and Ida then moved to Arriba, Colorado to start their life together. Five children were born to this marriage, three daughters, Pam, Jill and Robin and two sons, Tim and Tony.

Ida was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her husband and children. She also worked outside the home in restaurants, nursing homes, the drug store in Arriba and selling Avon products. Ida enjoyed serving on the Arriba Town Board and as Mayor of Arriba for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the LNO club and an active member of the First Congregational Church of Arriba.

Ida's many interests included playing softball, crocheting afghans, cross stitching, and ceramic projects. She was a big Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan and loved to watch their games on television with Erik. Preceding Ida in death was her father John Hoffman. Ida is survived by her husband Erik of Arriba, Colorado, her mother Mary Hoffman of Pigeon, Michigan, her three sisters Helen Ruby and her husband Joe of Pigeon, Michigan, Ethel Gunden and her husband John Dale of Bay Port, Michigan, Alice Albrecht and her husband Lyle of Bay Port, Michigan, her children Pam Koehn and her husband Mike of Arriba, Colorado, Jill Johnson of Lakewood, Colorado, Tim Johnson of Lakewood, Colorado, Tony Johnson of Limon, Colorado, Robin Clark and her husband Rick of Derby, Kansas, and her grandchildren, Rick Johnson and his wife Amber of Aurora, Colorado, Jeff Clark and Greg Clark of Derby, Kansas and Danielle Johnson of Limon, Colorado.

Ida also leaves many brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and her many friends and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by all of these people.

Funeral services were held March 13, 2001, at the First Congregational Church in Arriba, Colorado with Pastor Bob Strauch officiating. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" sung by Bob Churchwell and accompanied by Roger Jackson. Casket bearers were Harvey Dumcum, Larry Eastin, Charles Rarick, Kermit Brent, Ed Rarick and Curt Price. Honorary Escorts were Joe Ruby, John Dale Gunden, Lyle Albrecht, Harold Johnson, Harry Johnson, and Holger Johnson.

Graveside services of interment were held at the Arriba Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Love Funeral Home of Limon.
