About Ida F Marks

Ida's family composition [https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G3W3-4CD]

Information in an email

Allie Turner Marks was William Dudley's first wife. She died at age 50 of pneumonia, as I was told by an uncle. William Dudley's second wife was Ida Dixon. Her family had a large farm in the area and their is a stop downstream a couple of miles called Dixon's Landing. The family farm is now a state park along the riverfront. John Randolph Marks was called Dock most of his life. He and Ida continued to run the store at W.D.'s death. All three of their graves are in the Maple Grove Baptist Church graveyard at Bent Creek.

May have been a postmaster in Bent Creek, Va.

The census lists Ida F Mark(e) as the wife of William D Mark(e) living at the same place and William D Marks had previously lived with Angeline Alice Marks (Turner). Ida F is listed at 5 years older than William & Angeline's eldest child Ida B Marks. I speculate that Ida F is incorrectly shown on the census and might actually be Ida B.. William's daughter, not his wife. This speculation is wrong. Ida F Marx is a different person.

Later evidence shows that Ida F Marks is indeed a different person than Ida B Marks. I am less certain about which Ida was a postmaster in Bent Creek.

My father claims that one of The Ida's married a McCormick which is why the Marks store became the McCormick store. That store was relocated from the old highway to the new one (and, thus, more or less no longer in Bent Creek, although the store really was all there was to Bent Creek) in the 1960s. The newer location was open and operated by McCormicks until sometime in 2000s.
