Ida was the only daughter of William Billy and Lucinda Revels Lowrey. She married John L. Scott, Sr. Aug. 27, 1911 in Robeson county, North Carolina. After John's death, she married Alec Chesley (A. C.) Locklear, Sr.

The following was taken from the Nov. 25, 1959 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

Mrs. Ida Scott Locklear, 75, widow of John L. Scott and A. C. Locklear, died early this morning in Southeastern General Hospital after several months of illness.

The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in Deep Branch Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Roy Maynor, the Rev. T. M. Swett and the Rev. Claudie Dial. The body will be at Biggs Funeral Home.

Known generally as Mrs. Ida Scott, she operated considerable farm lands on Route 4, on both sides of I-95 south of the airport. She was unusually active in charitable and religious affairs. Her old-fashioned sun-bonnet was a sort of trademark.

Surviving are her sons, James, Woodrow, Leroy, John L., Barney, Robert, Billie and Earl Scott, all of Lumberton; her daughters, Mrs. Ruby Sampson of Lumberton and Mrs. Clara Mae F. Hunt and Mrs. Bessie Lockee of High Point; her foster daughters, Miss Mabel Scott, Mrs. Lucinda Lewis, Miss Betty Jane Locklear and Mrs. Betty Ruth Roberts of the home; her foster sons, Elbert Brent Chavis and Eddie Gene Chavis of the home; her step daughters, Mrs. Aggie Deese and Mrs. Lee Deese of Pembroke; a stepson, H. C. Locklear, Jr. of Pembroke, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

  • **NOTE: Her name at her death was actually Ida Lowrey Scott Locklear, but she is buried with her first husband, John Scott, Sr. She was also more commonly referred to as Mrs. Ida Scott in the community.
