Obituary from the Harlan County Journal Mrs. Ida Leona Abbott was born the thirteenth child of fifteen children to Marco D. Stone and Amanda Frances Faubion Stone on September 1, 1896, in northern Phillips County, Kansas. She departed this life Wednesday evening, May 1994, at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska. Her age was 97 years, five months and 17 days. Leona attended the Crystal Creek Rural School District 53 which was a sod school house in northern Phillips County, KS. On August 6, 1919., Miss Stone was united in marriage to Owen Henry Abbott by Harlan County Judge B.B. Webber at Alma. To this union, two sons, Francis Merle and Kenneth Ray were born. The Abbott's resided in northern Phillips county until retiring and moving to 234 Truman Ave. in Republican City, in 1960. Owen preceded Leona in death on Aug. 27, 1897. She has been a resident of the Colonial Villa since Febr. 22, 1994. While residing in Republican City, Leona attended the United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son, Merle, on March 7, 1994; a half sister Lydia Stone; nine brothers, Charlie E, Elmer Lee, Clarence Dewey, William L, Jesse W., Fredrick Willey, Leo Marko, Lewis Ellsworth and James S. Stone; four sister, Eliza E. Stone, Catherine M. Houk, Stella Carrie Patnode and Amanda Ladema Workman.
