Ida West was born December 26, 1893, in Snowflake, Arizona, to Samuel Ezra West and his wife Julia Ellsworth West. In the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, their family is living in Show Low, Navajo, Arizona, and they are listed as: Ezra, 34, Julia, 30, Emma, 12, Ezra J., 10, Karl B., 8, Ida, 5, Sedenia, 3, and Laverne, 2 years old. Samuel Ezra and Julia had been married 14 years and have had six children. He was working as a farmer. His parents were born in Tennessee and Utah and Julia's parents were born in New York and England. They owned their own home free from a mortgage. By 1910, the family was living in Lakeside, and were listed there as: S.E. West, 43, Julia E., 39, Emma, 22, Carl B., 18, Ida, 16, Dina (Sedenia) 13, La Verne, 11, Earl, 9, Mary, 6 and Gwendolyn, 2 years old. Samuel and Julia had been married 23 years and had given birth to 9 children. Samuel was working as a wool grower, and his son Carl as a sheep hand. They owned their own home free from a mortgage.

Ida married John A. Hansen June 7, 1916, and by the 1920 U.S. Federal Census, were living in Cooley, Apache, Arizona, and were listed as: John A, 30, Ida, 26, John Rex, 2, and Myrl, 1 year old. John was working as a foreman. By 1930 the family had moved to Show Low, Navajo, Arizona, and are listed there as: J. Clark Hansen, 39, Ida W., 35, John Rex, 13, Myrl, 11, Fred R., 8, Julia E., 6, Carol Emily, 4, Ida Geneil, 8 months old. They owned their own home which was valued at $500. Ida and John had been married for 13 years. John and Ida were both working as merchants in the general merchandise industry.

John was working as a clerk in the merchandise business, Ida was working as a housewife, John Rex as a jackhammer man for a construction company, Myrl was a helper and had her own home, and Fred was a laborer in a store. For the year 1939, John earned $286 income for the 12 weeks he worked that year at 48 hours per week, and John Rex earned $150 income for the 25 weeks he worked that year at 30 hours per week. I don't know how they supported 10 people on less than $500 a year!

Ida passed away at the age of 82 years old the day after Christmas in 1975 while living in Navajo County, Arizona. Her husband John Clark Hansen, preceded her in death and passed away on May 1, 1971, in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona.
