In June-1882, Ired Marshall Raley was ordained as a Baptist minister in Boone, Arkansas. Ired was both a minister and a farmer. Ired and family also made and sold brooms. He made the brooms from Broomcorn he grew.

Broomcorn, also known as millet or guinea corn is still widely grown in the US. Broomcorn was first brought into this country in the late 1700's by Benjamin Franklin.

Ired moved his family to Oklahoma in 1901
