About Irvin Cleveland Hirst
Irvin C. Hirst, 83, of Mission, Texas, formerly of Barry, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, in Mission Hospital, Mission, Texas.
He was born May 11,1927, on the family farm in Calhoun County, to Carrol and Beulah (Becker) Hirst. They preceded him in death.
He married Elizabeth L. (Betty) Hubbard April 28, 1951, in Nebo. She died April 7, 2002.
He married Betty Lou Bain March 15, 2003, in Mission. She survives in Mission.
Irvin was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had once served as mayor of Barry for eight years. He was a member of the Barry Church of Christ. He retired from General Telephone Co. after 40 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and the Lions Club.
He is also survived by four sons, Phillip Hirst and his wife, Beth of Peoria, Gale Hirst of Westerville, Ohio, Raymond Hirst and his wife Mary Ann, of Quincy and Rodney Hirst and his wife Jan of Metamora; and one daughter, Barbara and her husband Bob Irick, of Kansas City, Mo.
Also survived by four grandsons, Chad Hirst and wife Lori, of Eureka, Jacob Hirst of Metamora, and Chase and Lucas Hirst of Peoria; four granddaughters, Cassie Keschinger and husband Kevin, of Parkville City, Mo.; Jessica Burkett and husband Lance of Kansas City; Courtney Stivers and husband Ryan of Arkansas and Ashton Hirst of Peoria; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Hirst and Kenneth Hirst; and two sisters, Vera Vetter and Moina Miller.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith Hirst and John Hirst.
Irvin was a W.W. II Navy Veteran & member of the VFW.
He had once served as Mayor of Barry for eight years.
He was a member of the Barry Church of Christ.
