Irvin Oakley, 89, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 24, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Southeast Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Neal, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Bushland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mr. Oakley went home to be with our savior Jesus Christ on his 89th birthday for a glorious celebration in heaven.
He was born in Memphis and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1948. He was a custodian for Amarillo Independent School District for 15 years before his retirement in 1978.
He was a longtime member of Southeast Baptist Church. He married the former Uvie Littrell 67 years ago on Oct. 14, 1934, in Hollis, Okla.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don Oakley of Amarillo and Bill Oakley of Shenandoah; a brother, Vernon Oakley of Lindsey, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Collins of Estelline and Ruby Graham of Memphis; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001.
The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home. Please call for viewing hours.
The family will receive visitors at the family home.
