Colon; Irvin L. WAGNER Jr., age 82, of Colon, Mich., died April 17, 2004, at Fairview Living Center in Centreville, after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Colon Township, a son of the late Irvin Sr. and Eunice belle (SNOOK) WAGNER.
He had lived most of his life in and around Colon and Sturgis. He graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1939.
On Sept. 14, 1946, he married Helen M. JEFFERY. Later he married Joyce ELY ROBINSON on Nov. 15, 1967, and she died in 1980.
He was a longtime supervisor for the Kirsch Company of Sturgis, retiring in 1982.
He attended the Colon United Methodist Church, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Colon American Legion Post 454 and the Colon Masonic Lodge F&AM #73. He was one of the organizers for his army reunion. Irvin enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling, was an avid Cubs baseball fan and supported family sporting events.
Surviving are; Helen M. JEFFERY; four sons, Irvin (Leo) WAGNER III and wife, Sue of Bronson, Donald J. and Lori WAGNER of Fishers, Ind., Duane C. and Barbara WAGNER of Colon, and Lloyd A. and Rhonda WAGNER of Jackson; four step-daughters, Sherry and Mike BENJAMIN of Sturgis, Patty and Gary McDONALD of Aurora, Colo., Julie and Kim ROBINS of Missoula, Mont., and Lisa and Farrel BURNS of Sturgis; a step-son, Ronald and Muriel ROBINSON of Holland; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Muriel HOVARTER of Leonidas and Nettie McGILL of Sturgis; a brother Raymond John WAGNER of Colon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter; Betty WAGNER in 1954; two sisters, Beatrice SHULL and Pearl SKEELS; and five brothers, James, Earl, George, Harry and Robert WAGNER.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. of Colon where a Masonic Memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. with the Colon Masonic Lodge presiding. Funeral services celebrating the life of Irvin L. Wagner Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Arthur C. Murphy of the Colon United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery with military honors being conferred by the Colon American Legion Post 454.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Colon Community Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
