.Fines, costs and witness's expenses totalled £10/17/10 for "Bluey" Thomas, near cokeovens, Wallsend, against whom Irwin Alfred Adams. of Gregory-parade Kotara, proceeded on. charges of assault and insulting words.
When the Magistrate asked for Thomas's correct name, "Harold" was given. On the assault charge,' Thomas wans fined £3,' with 8 Court costs. 18/10 witness's expenses, and £1/11/6 professional costs, in default 12 days' imprisonment. In the other ease, the fine was a similar one, with 8/ Court costs and £1/l11/6 professional costs, in default 10 days' imprisonment.
The complainant, who was represented by Mr. N. C. Wheeler (Mesers. Harris, Wheeler and Williams). said he wans employed by Greater Newcastle Council as an impounding officer. On October 20 he visited Wallsend with Mervyn Ingall as an assistant. Certain cattle and a horse were rounded up. The animals were being
driven to the pound when two head of cattle got into tile Co-operative Society's paddock. He and Ingall went after the cattle in the paddock, and when they returned to their horses the horse which was left with theirs and one which had a halter on had gone. He saw Tlhomas going through the park. Mounting his horse, he went
after the missing horse, which Thomas was driving away. Thomas was on a bicycle and when witness approached him he called out, "'You can't have that horse."
Witness said that after he had taken the horse from Thomas, Thomas hit him on the leg with a pailing. When witness dismounted from his horse to fix the bridle Thomas used the insulting language.
Mervyn H. Ingall, of Orchardltown road, New Lambton. also gave evidence.
Defendant said that on going to look for his cart-horse he found the animal tied up in a lane, with nobody in charge of- it. He pulled off the halter it had on and wans driving it home when Adams rode up. Adams said. "What did you let that horse go for?" Witness went home to get a bridle for the horse. Later, Adams and his assistant came galloping down the hill to where he was, and when he proceeded to block his horse Adams
ran his horse into him three times. He hit Adams's horse on the head with a bridle. and it ran to a fence, against
which Adams struck his leg.
