Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Apr 3 2002 - Isa Pearl Cowan Carter Bryant, 103, daughter of Levi Cyrus and Jossie Arrona (Middaugh) Cowan, was born February 25, 1899, in Henry County and died March 20, 2002, at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. In August 1999 at the age of 100 she moved from her home in Clinton to Windsor to the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Willard Spain. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Clinton in the early 1940s. She later transferred her membership to the Allen Street Baptist Church where she faithfully taught Sunday School and devoted her time and talents to the support of the church. The Bible was her favorite book and she devoted hours each day to reading the Bible. She was proud to say she had read the entire Bible two times and started the third time. Her pride was in her faith and need to understand rather than in her accomplishment. Isa married Earnest (Boots) Carter in 1917. He passed away in 1956. To this union six children were born: Leonard (Boe), Thelma, Billie, Glen, C. B., and Dorothy. Isa married Roy Lee Bryant in 1947. He passed away in 1964. Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, Eva Thompson, Virgie Lobaugh, Ethel Carter and Opal Hargrave; two brothers, Howard and Oscar Cowan; daughter, Thelma, and two sons, Leonard (Boe) and Billie. Isa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Willard Spain of Windsor; her son, Glenn Carter of Independence, and her son and daughter-in-law, C. B. and Norma Carter, Clinton; daughter-in-law, Bessie Carter of Lowry City, and daughter-in-law, Maurita Carter of Clinton; sister, Alma Corder of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and former daughter-in-law and close friend, Dortha Wolford. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Isa is remembered for the many years she cooked at various restaurants, Holy Rosary Catholic School and the senior center. Isa was a loving, caring and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. The wonderful meals and family celebrations were Isa's joy. She put her heart and love into each one. She loved to crochet and many of her doilies and afghans were given to her grandchildren. In later years she hand-pieced many quilt tops which were given to family members. She pieced her last quilt when she was 100. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel on Saturday, March 23. Burial was in the Clinton Memory Garden Cemetery, Clinton.
