About Isaac Behunin

Isaac Buhunnin, who was the son of Albert Buhunnin, was born on the 20th day of October 1803, in the Township of Richland, County of Oswego, State of New York, and was married to Meribah Morton daughter of Isaac and Nancy Morton in the year 1824. In the year 1826 he removed with his family to the Township of Williston, County of Chittenden, State of Vermont. In the spring of 1824 he removed with his family back to Richland Township, County of Oswego, New York and here, on the first day of January 1833 he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Elder Zera Pulcipher. In June following he removed to Kirtland, Ohio, where his wife, Meribah, died on the 6th day of July 1836, and in the fall following he was married to Elmina Tyler, daughter of Andrus and Elizabeth Tyler.

In the spring of 1835 he removed to Erie County Pennsylvania, where he resided until September 1836 when he removed to Marion County Ohio, here he was ordained a Priest under the hands of Elder Lewis Davidson in the spring of 1837, and in June 1837 he removed with his family to Randolph County Missouri, from there he removed to Davi[e]s County in June 1838. He was here during all of the difficulties, which the bretheren had to under go in consequence of the mob, which infested this County. This fall he removed to Caldwell county with the brethren who were driven out of Davi[e]s County and settled near Far West where he remained until the last of January 1839 when he was compelled to leave the State under the exterminating order of Governor Bogg together with the rest of his brethren and settled in Hancock County Illinois, and in October following he removed to Commerce, now Nauvoo.

He was ordained an Elder under the hands of Elders William Smith one of the Twelve and Alpheus Gifford at the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints held in Nauvoo on the 6th day of April 1840. In June following he, in company with several other Elders took a short mission, to preach the gospel into the territory of Iowa and baptized eleven persons.

In May 1844 he was ordained an Elder in the Quorum of Seventies under the direction of Joseph Young, President of the Quorum of Seventies and at the General Conference in Nauvoo. On the 8th of October 1844 was attached to the eleventh quorum at the organization of said quorum and was ordained an High Priest on the day of under the direction of George Muller, President of the High Priests Quorum.
