ISAAC RIDDLE CARPENTER was born on April 1, 1856 in Crawford County, Indiana, and died on September 3, 1926 in Papillion, Sarpy County, Nebraska. He was the son of JOHN ANDREW CARPENTER (1819-1889) and his wife MAHALA NEAL (1829-1899).

Isaac married LAURA M. SAMPSON on February 4, 1878 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, daughter of AQUILLA SAMPSON and his wife ELIZA LEAK. Laura was born on March 9, 1860 in Polk County, Iowa, and died on June 8, 1933 in Papillion, Sarpy County, Nebraska.

Isaac's brother, John Wesley Carpenter, married Melissa Sampson, the sister of Laura Sampson.

I. R. Carpenter, Pioneer, Dead

Isaac R. Carpenter, Sarpy county pioneer, died at his home in the south part of town early Friday morning [Sept. 3, 1926] after an illness of several days of apoplexy. He was stricken ten days ago and never regained consciousness.

Isaac R. Carpenter was born April 1, 1856 in Indiana where he spent his boyhood days. He came to Sarpy county 46 years ago, locating first in Platford precinct where he farmed several years and then moved to near Papillion, farming the farm just west of what is known as the Sipherd farm in Fairview precinct near Richfield. Later, he gave up farming and moved to Papillion, residing for a time on the tract known as the old fair grounds and later moving to the late home in Papillion.
He was married 47 years ago to Miss Laura Sampson at Des Moines, Iowa, and five children were born, two of who with the widow survive. They are one son, Denver Carpenter, of Brunswick, Nebraska, and one daughter, Mrs. Pearl Lamb of Papillion. Mrs. Nettie Archer and Hattie, two other daughters, and Harry, a son, died several years ago. The deceased is also survived by three brothers, George Carpenter of Des Moines, Dave Carpenter of Los Angeles, and Marion Carpenter who resides in Iowa. Three sisters also survive. Mrs. William Elliott of Boulder, Colorado, and two who reside in Iowa.
The funeral was held from the late home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. B. Johansen, pastor of the St. Paul's Methodist, conducting the services. Several hymns were sung by Miss Stella Fase and Henry Eitelgeorge. Burial was in Cedar Dale cemetery.
A large number of the old friends and neighbors of the family attended the services.
The deceased was a man of a quiet and retiring disposition but was highly respected by everyone who knew him. He was a loving husband and father and was devoted to his wife and children. He was a good neighbor and will be greatly missed in the community.
