Notes:
Isaac Harris was born about 1642 at Duxbury, Mass. and married Mercy Latham (b. June 2, 1650 at East Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Mass.) sometime before October 29, 1668 in Bridgewater. Mercy was the granddaughter of Mary Chilton who came on the Mayflower.
It would appear that Isaac separated, or perhaps deserted Mercy for a period of time for we read that "Robert Latham and his daughter Mercy, wife of "Isaack Harris", complained to the General Court at Plymouth that Harris "departed the government leaving her with her child; the court took action 5 July 1669." This was early in their marriage, and they must have patched things up, for they went on to have a large family.
In another reference we read that an "Isaacke Harris" (Arthur's son) was fined one pound for "disturbing the church" there. No detail is given of the exact offence, but the congregations of that time were quite sensitive to many moral "sins". (reference has been lost)
Mercy died in Bridgewater after February 2, 1684 and before June 1698, according to one reference, but it must have been as least after 1690 (or 1693) to allow for the birth of baby Mercy.
Isaac married a second time to Mary Dunbar, the daughter of Robert Dunbar, in Hingham in 1698. They had two children, Benjamin and Martha. It appears they continued to live in Bridgewater and to combine their families.
Isaac died at Bridgewater January 22, 1706/07. Son-in-law Peletiah Smith and John Kingman were appointed administrators of the estate of Isaac Harris late of Bridgewater on March 7, 1706/07. On the same day Peletiah was appointed guardian to Isaac's daughter Mercy "Harrice" aged over 14; and Peter Dunbar was appointed guardian to Isaac's two children by his wife Mary, Peter's sister. A June 19, 1708 account and division of Isaac's estate names Isaac Harris as eldest living son, other sons Samuel and Benjamin, daughters Desire wife of John Kingman, Jane wife of Peletiah Smith, Susanna "Nuland", Mary, Mercy and Martha.
