About Isaac Gabriel Hartzler
- Left Belleville as a young man and went to Cass Co, MO where he spent the rest of his life. - He suffered from a chronic ailment and gradually became weaker. - No children of their own but took into their home 3 girls and one boy = Mabel - Mrs. William Guilliam, Ok City, OK, Emery D King, Kalona, IA, Phoebe King - Mrs. T. H. Erb, Denver, CO, Lorine - Mrs. Earl Roth at home. - Born June l4, l862, in Belleville, Pennsylvania, Isaac was a son of Menno and Mary (King) Hartzler. He came to Case County when he was l8 years old and spent 62 years in the East Lynne, Missouri community. December 24, l889, Isaac and Mary Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Miller, were married. Four foster children were cared for in their home. He was ordained deacon in 1904 and bishop in 1914, He served the church faithfully and well. One writer described him as follows; "The minister benign in appearance, cultured in conversation-in short, he was a lovable person." His passing occurred December 15, 1946, at the age of 84 years.
