The son of Fielding Jones and Mary Johnson he was married to Virginia Frances Sullivan, the daughter of Woodson Sullivan and Lucy Pates. They were the parents of ten children; John Thomas Jones, Llew Ellen Alcester Jones, William Amos Jones, Alice Virginia Jones, Calvin Macrae Jones, Twyman Sullivan Jones, John Isaac Breckinridge Jones, Timothy Chancellor Jones, Welford Jones, and Emma Eggleston Jones.
