He bequeathed upwards of two thousand acres of land in Worcester County to found the first Law Professorship of Harvard University and his other bequests were numerous and liberal. He has a town (Royalston) in Massachusetts named for him, he was a member of the Artillery Company of Boston in 1750, and was made a brigadier general in 1761, the first of that title among Americans, he was a Deputy in the General Court of Boston, Justice of the Peace, Suffolk County, MA, expatriate 1775, merchant mariner.
