About Isaac Saunders
Isaac Saunders (born November 8, 1808 in Westerly , Rhode Island , † April 7, 1888 in Scituate , Rhode Island) was an American politician . In the years 1859 and 1860 he was Lt. Governor of the State of Rhode Island.
Life
Nothing is said about the youth and education of Isaac Saunders. Professionally, he worked in cotton processing. In 1835 he co-founded the Saundersville Mill or the Upper Mill, which he led until 1857 together with a partner. This factory made cotton into clothing fabrics. He lived in North Scituate, where he was a respected citizen. In the 1850's he joined the Republican Party.
In 1859, Saunders was elected to the side of Thomas G. Turner as Lt. Governor of Rhode Island. This office he held between 1859 and 1860. He was Lt. Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he did not appear politically. Isaac Saunders died on April 7, 1888 in Scituate.
