About Isaac Snow
A Patriot of the American Revolution for MASSACHUSETTS - CONNECTICUT with the rank of PRIVATE.
DAR Ancestor # A106672
The town Orleans derived its name through Isaac Snow. He had fought in the Revolutionary War. After he was captured twice and taken to Gibraltar and England, he was given up for lost. After one daring escape he made his way to France. There he met Marquis de Lafayette and Count d'Estaing and he returned to America as a crew member of their fleet. In gratitude for the help of the French, he suggested his town be named Orleans, after the French help Louis Philippe Joseph, duc d'Orleans.
