Seneca/Deer Clan
"Lizzy"
- Married Erwin M. Cross in 1945
- Children: Marv, Terry and Max Cross
Isabel R. Cross died Jan. 29, 2019, at the Absolute Nursing Home in Orchard Park, N.Y., where she had resided for almost two years.
Isabel was born June 11, 1925, on the Seneca Allegany Reservation at Red House. She was an enrolled citizen of the Seneca Nation and a member of the Bear Clan. She tended the boat house in Allegany State Park where her father was a park ranger.
She graduated from Randolph High School in 1944 and married Irwin M. Cross the following year, settling down in Cassadaga, N.Y. Irwin and “Izzy” were married 47 years until his death in 1987.
Isabel was a cub scout den leader and held several civic volunteer posts as well as helping run the family dairy farm. She worked as an inspector for Johnny Carson industries and was always proud to be the person who inspected all the suits Johnny wore on the Tonight show. Of her many pastimes she loved time with her grandchildren best. After retirement Isabel lived in Crystal River, Fla., and traveled extensively, spending summers visiting Oregon, or back home in Cassadaga.
Isabel is survived by three sons, Marv Cross, of Fredonia, N.Y., Terry Cross, of Portland, Oregon, and Max Cross, of Cassadaga, N.Y., as well as six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Her ashes will be interred next to her husband in the Charlotte Center Cemetery at a memorial to be held at a future date to be determined.
