Not the daughter of John Dowse & Casandra Dowse
Isabel Bonner, daughter of Robert and Mabell (Harrison) Bonner was baptized February 12, 1569/70 at St. Botolph's, Boston, Lincolnshire, and buried there on June 22, 1615.[1]
Isabel married first at Boston on August 8, 1586 (she was 16 years old), William Earle, who was baptized March 6, 1560/1 at Boston; he was buried there as Mr. William Earle, March 19, 1591/2.[2] Isabel and William Earle had one known child:
In William Earle's will dated March 12, 1591/2 and proved March 20, 1592/3, he named his wife Isabel, and his daughter, Alice, under 20.[4]
Isabel married second Rev. William Jeffrey (Jeffraye) at Boston, September 21, 1592;[5] he was buried January 13, 1594/5.[6] There were no children born to Isabel and William Jeffrey. [7] In Rev. William Jaffraye's will dated December 31 1594, and proved May 27, 1595, William named his wife Isabel; Alice Earl, her daughter; mother Bonner, and his father Richard Jaffraye, among others.[8]
Isabel married third Anthony Hawkredd, April 27, 1595, at Frieston, Lincolnshire;[9] Anthony was a son of William Hawkredd and Cassandra (Claymond) Dowse.[7] Isabel was the mother of all of Anthony's children (note, baptisms, marriages, and burials at St. Botolph's Boston, Lincolnshire):[10][7]
Isabel Dowse, posthumous daughter of John Dowse by his wife Cassandra _____ Dowse, was said by one author to have been the first wife of Anthony Hawkredd. Per Holman, Isabel Dowse was born at Freiston, Lincolnshire, England, about 1560. She died and was buried at Boston, Lincolnshire, England, June 22, 1615. She married Anthony Hawkredd (son of William) as his first wife, about 1595.[10] However, later research proves that this is incorrect. It was Isabel Bonner who married Anthony Hawkredd as his first wife.[7]
The afore-mentiond Isabel Dowse did not exist. Her alleged parents, John Dowse (1523-1559) and Cassandra _______ (per Holman) (now known to be Cassandra (Claymond) Hawkredd) did not have a known daughter Isabel.[11]. After John Dowse's death in 1559, Cassandra had married William Hawkredd in abut 1560. Their son, Anthony Hawkredd (1561-1628) is the man who married Isabel (Bonner) (Earle) (Jeffray) as her 4th spouse; she was his first spouse.[12]
Holman had apparently thought that the will of Richard Dowse of Frieston, dated September 21, 1599, as well as the will of Wlliam Tuckney of Kirton, dated January 29, 1610/11, both of whom referred to Anthony Hawkredd as their "brother" in some way, indicated a relationship in which Isabel Dowse was the woman who married Anthony Hawkredd. Richard Dowse and Anthony Hawkredd were brothers - half brothers, in that their mother was Cassandra (Claymond) Hawkredd (abt.1528-bef.1565). William Tuckney was a half-brother of Isabel Bonner due to her mother's first marriage.[13]
