Isabel Hugo (1946 - 2013)

Brief overview:

Isabel (67), who was hit by a rock in her face, in August 2012, during 'protest' outside of Clocolan, FS, died on 8th July 2013.

The protesters had blocked off roads to Marquard and Excelsior and were throwing stones at motorists in protest against the Setsoto municipality’s action against squatters on municipal land.

Isabel, and her daughter, Elsabe (27), were driving past the rioters in her bakkie (pick-up), when the mob started throwing rocks and stones at the vehicle. One of stones went flying through the open window and hit Isabel on the head, rendering her unconscious, resulting in the vehicle crashing.

Isabel was in a coma in hospital. A health spokesperson said Hugo had suffered serious head injuries. She suffered severe brain damage and never recovered.
