US Congressman. He graduated from Harvard University in 1781, studied law, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninth and Tenth Congresses, serving until 1809 and elected to the Twelfth Congress, serving (1811-13). After his term, he was appointed by President Madison collector of customs for the district of Barnstable, Massachusetts, serving (1814-37). He then resumed the practice of law until his death at age79.
