About Isaiah Perdue

Isaiah was the son of William Perdue and Edith Powell.

One of the first mentioning of Isaiah Perdue is found on a document of Revolutionary War muster roll of one Captain Paris of Montgomery and Botetouri Counties. The fourth man listed, Isaiah Perdue, is marked "not fit for duty". No date is legible and no reason is given.

Isaiah Perdue married Mary "Sarah" Belcher, June 30, 1788 in Montgomery County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Isham Belcher and Elizabeth Clay. In 1807 there is a record of a deed for land Isaiah purchased on Twelve Pole Creek for $405.00. The price indicates that it was a very large tract of land, had buildings and cleared fields or both. It is located in now what is Wayne County. It is also known that Isaiah had a number of "millseats", which means that he may have been a miller by trade.

It can also be assumed that he had slaves during this time. It has been found that Isaiah Perdue, Jr. bought a slave his mother had purchased at one time. The slave listed in Sarah's appraisal of her personal property as being valued at $400.00, and Isaiah, Jr., bought her for $405.00, showing that his family was attached to the woman.

Isaiah Perdue and his wife were the parents of Edward Perdue, Fergus Perdue, Isaiah Perdue, Jr., Jesse Perdue, James E. Perdue, Lucinda E. Perdue, Daniel Perdue, Thomas Jefferson Perdue, Lewis D. Perdue and Elizabeth Perdue.
