From British Newspaper Archive: Acton Gazette Thursday, 31 August 1972 Page 7 Cool Thief is one-man Crime Wave

Chiswick C.I.D. believe that the wave of day-time burglaries on houses in Bedford Park, Acton Green, during recent weeks, is all the work of one cool-headed thief. In each case the same method was used — the raider waited until the occupants of a house went out and then forced his way through the front. Police consider he may strike again and are taking steps to catch him.

Among recent victims were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Piffard of Addison Grove, who had nearly £600 worth of jewellery stolen. "Mostly the things were of sentimental value, like a solid silver tea service that was a wedding present, and my engagement ring." said Mrs. Piffard. "Whoever did it went through everything with a fine tooth-comb. He took everything of value." she said. Like others in her situation, Mrs. Piffard has looked in various places second-hand shops and stalls for her property but so far no trace of it has been found.
