

James Abels, Captain of David Love’s I Kings State Troops, MS Confederate States Army, enlisted for service in the Confederate States Army on Aug. 16, 1862 by Col. A.M. Davis in Attala County, MS. The State Troops were made up of old men and young boys and organized for a period of only six months; also known as 1st Inf. Regt., Minute Men and mustered out late 1862. James served until they were discharged May 6, 1862 by S.A. Shortridge.
James C. Abels was born in TN, May 26, 1795 to William C. and Jamina?, and married Sarah Stacy March 26, 1815 in Roane County, TN. They had nine children, seven of whom served in the Confederate States Army.
