Jack Slade, 88, of Overland Park,passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at ManorCare of Overland Park. Funeral services will be 3:30pm Friday, June 12, 2009 at Congregation Kol Ami, 7501 Belinder, Prairie Village, KS. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of the donors choice. Mr. Slade was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, past president of B’nai B’rith and member Meadowbrook Country Club where he was an avid golfer. Mr. Slade owned and operated Fimco Corporation, a wholesale plumbing and steel supply company. He retired in 1991 after 44 years in business. After retirement Jack worked part time for Peter’s Clothiers. Mr. Slade served with the U.S. Army in WW II. Mr. Slade was well known as “Little Al Jolson” when he was a child competing and winning contests in movie theaters and acting in vaudeville in Kansas City. His child acting career ended at age 13 with the death of his mother. He continued to love to entertain, dance and sing and had a great sense of humor. Mr. Slade was preceded in death by his parents: Abe and Lilly Slabotsky; wife of 58 years: Ruth Slade; sister: Gertrude Edwards. He is survived by daughters: Sandy Schwartz, Debby Zack, both of Prairie Village, KS; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ernie and Ali Slabotsky, Los Angeles, CA, Gordon and Sally Slabotsky, Kansas City, KS; sister and brother-in-law: Hannah and Robert Levine, Los Angeles CA; grandchildren: Marnie Frederick and her husband Chad, Topeka, KS; Jordan Schwartz, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Adam and Jason Zach, both of Prairie Village, KS; great-grandson: Jack Robert Frederick, Topeka, KS. Mr. Slade will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
