John was born about 1774 in Berks Co, PA. He moved to Centre Co before 1800. Jacob's mother was Catharine Reinhart, daughter of George and Elizabeth also of Centre Co, PA. Jacob was their third child with other siblings being John George, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Lydia, Anna Maria, John, William , Frederick Reinhart, and Catharine.
