About Jacob Baker

Jacob Baker

Jacob Baker, a well known farmer of Jordan township, passed away very suddenly last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He was working near the house and complaining that he was tired, sat down to rest, expiring almost immediately, heart failure being the cause.

Mr. Baker was born in Warsaw, Indiana, on May 23, 1843, and would have been 71 years old next May. He came with his parents to Minnesota in the fall of 1864 and settled in Jordan township, where he has since resided, always following the occupation of farmer. In the summer of 1871 Mr. Baker was united in marriage to Elizabeth Fauver, by whom, with their four children, he is survived. The children are: Alpheus, of Wyoming; Garfield, living at home; Mrs. Ray Glover, of St. Charles; Mrs. Arthur Owens, of Sumner township. He also leaves six brothers and three sisters: William, of Minneapolis; Enoch, of Indiana; John, James, Sidney and Henry Baker, of Jordan township; Mrs. Romaine Farrington, of Chatfield, Mrs. T.H. O'Dell, of Madison, S.D.; Mrs. M.E. Mullen of Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services were held from the stone church in Sumner at 12 o'clock on Sunday, conducted by Rev. S.P. Shaw, and the remains were laid to rest in the Chatfield Cemetery. The funeral procession was met by members of the Meridian Lodge No. 56 A. F. & A.M., who escorted the remains to the cemetery and conducted the services at the grave.

The deceased was a member of Meridian Lodge, of this city, and was a man held in high esteem by all who knew him. The sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved wife and children in the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.
