About Jacob Boleme

Jacob Boleme (1984 - 2011)

Brief overview:

Jacob (27), a student constable, was shot dead, when police raided Hardie farm in Sutherland to search for illegal firearms, on 14th January 2011. His colleague, Warrant officer Glenwall du Toit was shot in the back

There was a dispute between the sheep farm owner, Gerhard du Plessis, and his tenants, a French couple, Mr. Phillipe (60), and his partner, Ms. Angus (58). Angus fired shots from the farm house and killed both policemen. They siezed their police service revolvers and continued to shoot at the other police officers, Du Plessis and his sons.

According to police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Hendrik Swart, Gerhard du Plessis, had been attempting to evict the couple for 10 months.

The couple escaped in Du Plessis' bakkie, but crashed it, and fled on foot. 18 police members of the intervention unit in the Western Cape, as well as two trackers, followed the couple's trail.
