About Jacob Brodowsky

Came to America with his sister - her name, unknown. Parents did not come to America - thier names also, unknown. They could be "Herman, Herschel, Hyman" and " Fagel Cohen" or "Sarah." Brodowsky assumingly means "from Brody," a name that must have been taken by one of his ancestors upon moving to Kiev. Supposedly the Brodowskys were horse dealers in Kiev.

Owned a hat-making company called Madame Astor and had two stores in NYC. He was born in Kiev, Ukraine (then part of the Russian Empire) in 1884 and immigrated to New York City in 1890. His native language was Yiddish. I believe he also knew Russian. He died in Rego Park, Queens. His zip code was 11374. At various points, he lived in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens.
