About Jacob Burnham
Jacob D. Burham (1820 - 1850)
Son of Richard and Elizabeth Burnham, Jacob was born 1 October 1820 in New York, New York. He died at the age of 30 in 1850 in Greenwood Valley, El Dorado County, California. He married Mary Caroline Blanchard (1828 - 1847), daughter of Simeon Blanchard and Eunice Squires (1798 - 1885), on 28 October 1845 in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois.
Marriage and Children
- Mary Caroline Blanchard, daughter of Simeon Blanchard and Eunice Squires, was born on 20 February 1828 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut. She died of scurvy on 2 March 1847 and was buried at Mormon Pioneer Cemetery, Grave #117.
- Mary Lowery Burnham was born on 27 November 1846 in Winter Quarters, Nebraska Territory. She died of summer complaint on 31 July 1847 at Winter Quarters and was buried at Mormon Pioneer Cemetery, Grave #184.
Jacob was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 13 November 1844. He received a patriarchal blessing by John Smith in Nauvoo in 1846. Both his wife and daughter died at Winter Quarters. Jacob went to Utah with the Brigham Young Pioneer Company in 1847 but didn't stay long before going to the California gold mines with B. J. Johnson. Records show that he paid tithing on 21 May 1850. He died later that year at Greenwood Valley.
