Jacob and his 16 year old bride eloped, without the knowledge of their parents, and went by horseback to Clarksburg, thence by train to Parkersburg, and then to Marietta, Ohio to be married. Each had a family member accompany them to witness the marriage. He is listed on the Lewis County death record as a farmer, and as having died of an unspecified accident. According to the late grand-daughter Shirley Bush Fulks, he died of blood poisoning (septicemia) following an ax injury. He and Cecilia had 11 children at the time of his death. They lived in what was known as the Bush Inn, which operated as an inn and toll house on the Staunton- Parkersburg Turnpike during an unknown period of time.
