About Jacob Colby
born on 11 APR 1733 in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. (SOURCE: Early Vital Records of Essex County, Massachusetts to 1850. Amesbury.) A Jacob Colby served 14 April to 16 Nov. 1758 in Col. John Hart's regt., Capt. Jonathan Smith's company. On the roll of Capt. John Stark's company of Rangers enlisted for the year 1759 was a Jacob Colby (Caleb Stark, ed., Memoir and Official Correspondence of Gen. John Stark, p. 96).
According to an account given by Albert S. Colby, a great grandson, in the Oxford County [Maine] Record, October 1888, and also in a personal genealogical account he published, Jacob Colby married Annie Miller, a Scotch girl, and settled in Fryeburg, Maine (Albert Colby "History of the Bible").
