About Jacob Cooper
Birth: Mar. 26, 1820 Death: Feb. 18, 1899
Jacob Cooper, son of Jacob and Susanna (Fink) Cooper, was born 26 Mar. 1820 at Locust Valley, Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. His father died at sea shortly after his birth.
On 30 Mar. 1845 Jacob Cooper married Sarah Ann Horlacher, only child of John and Mary Catharine (Egner) Horlacher. His parents-in-law were listed right next to him in Upper Saucon Township in the 1850 census.
Jacob appears again in Upper Saucon in the 1860 census, and then in Allentown in the 1870 and 1880 censuses.
Jacob Cooper "was a tanner by trade, and for twelve years prior to the breaking out of the civil was he was engaged in business at Coopersburg. He was also for a number of years a lumber and coal dealer, and was at one time a drover. In 1875 he was appointed superintendent of the Sugar Valley Lumber Company, along the Susquehanna River, and held the position for two years. Then he returned to Allentown and was for a number of years engaged in the bakery business. Mr. Cooper was a staunch Democrat, and held a number of township offices."
