About Jacob Dolmetsch
The exodus of the Palatines from Ireland to America began in 1760.Jacob arrived on the ship 'The Pery" in 1760 along with his oldest son Jacob and son David. His youngest son John had sailed to America 3 years prior as a soldier for the British Crown Among their numbers were Paul and Barbara {Ruckle]] Heck, and Philip and Margaret Switzer Embury. For the first three years this group attended the Lutheran Church, but in 1769, on John Street they began their Methodist Church.
In a petition dated 1 February 1763 the first group of Palatines had asked Governor Monkton of New York for land to produce linen and hemp. Among the signatures were Jacob Dilmidge Sr. and Jacob Dulmudge Jr.
First they lived in Camden County on the Lawrence settlement which is now New York ; but moved to Duane's Patent near Cambridge New York John , Jacob and David all used the spelling Dulmage while their father Jacob remained Dolmage.
As they passed the age of particapting in the disagreement where his sons took part as Loyalist , Jacob asked the Governor for permission to go to New York. Both passed away near Albany New York
When the revoluntary war broke out the Palatine women and children fled to Canada as United Empire Loyalists. The men stayed behind and fought with the British. In 1785 we finally find the Dulmages , Switzers and Lawrences have settled in Ontario Townships of Marysburg, Edwardsburg and Ernestown
