Prague Conscriptions: FISCHEL, Jakob, b. 1786; wife, Rachel Babette, b. 1786; son, Gustav, b. 1812; son, Ludwig, b. 1814.
Later in life, Jacob Fischel emigrated to the United States. Once he arrived, he changed his name to "Jacob Fischer", later altering it even further to "Jacob M. Fisher". On 12 September 1850, Jacob Fisher, age 65, "merchant from Germany, accompanied by his wife, "Madame Fisher", also age 65, arrived in New York Harbor on the ship "Fanny McGraw" out of Bremen, Germany. Their likely destination was St. Louis, Missouri where their only surviving child, Dr. Gustavus Fisher [Fischel] had settled two years previously.
In 1860, Jacob, by then a widower, is seen living next door to his brother, Ephraim, in St. Louis, Missouri. He is referred to as "Jacob Fischer, age 74, b. Prag, Bohmen." He died in St. Louis in January 1864, in his 79th year of age. His gravestone bears the name "Jacob M. Fisher".
