- Betty - On March 10 I asked you about Peter Schlosser Gering.
I also asked about "My other mystery is, there was a Jacob Gering/Goering who was co-founder of the Alta Mill in 1876 along with Joseph Schrag. I have never found out what became of this Jacob Gering, or who his descendants are."
Was it you, or someone else, who suggested that this Jacob Gering could have been a brother to Peter Schlosser as it would make sense if both brothers were in the milling business. Both of them are brothers to my great-grandmother, Veronikaring Stucky.
If so, there is a Jacob H. Goering in Brothers Keeper, who would be the father of John F. Goering, involved with the Citizens State Bank. Among his descendants is a grandson, Virgil Goering, still with the bank, who lives next door to my mon Pine Village. His daughters are Jeanette, Suzette, Connie.
I called Virgil and asked if he had a great-grandfather Jacob H. Gering/Goering. He didn't know. I asked if he was the guy who was co-founder of the Alta Mill along with Joseph Schrag. He had never heard anything like that. It seems to meat Virgil is more into banking and farming, maybe watching basketball, than anything in history. When I went to him, soliciting funds for the Catlin stone, and showed him a simple family tree chart that his grandfather's baby brother was one who died at Peabody, he said he never heard of it. Anyway, still looking for this Alta Mill Jacob Gering/Goering.
