About Jacob Granger

Jacob served in the colonial troops of Massachusetts during the Revolutionary war.

Ezra Putnam (6) {Phineas (5), Stephen(4), Benjamin(3), Nathaniel(2), John(1)}, was born in Danvers, Massachusetts, 6 March, 1771. He m. 1st in Danvers, 1st 28 Nov., 1799 Sally Putnam (b. Danvers, Mass., 28 Nov., 1779, dau. of Israel & Sally (Epps) Putnam).

Sally died at Danvers, 21 Aug., 1811. Ezra m. 2nd in Danvers, 16 June, 1813 Hannah Granger (b. Andover, Mass., 3 Nov., 1775, dau. of Jacob & Sarah (Farnum) Granger of Andover, Mass).
Ezra and Hannah removed to Cavendish, ca. 1816 and located on a 200+ acre farm. They worked this farm for twenty years and in 1835 sold it to Jesse Spaulding. About the year 1836, Ezra removed with his family and other Windsor County, Vermont families to Wells County, Indiana. His son, Franklin, stayed in Cavendish. While in the wilderness country, the parents sent their young Charles on a trip to Muncie, about 30 miles away, for supplies. While in Muncie, Charles was exposed to the measles epidemic and brought the sickness back to the family with tragic results. Kendall, Charles, and William died in March of that year, with Ezra and William passing away in April. The tragedy was too much for Ezra and Hannah who both escaped the early call of death but not the incredible sorrow that came with losing their beloved children. They returned to Cavendish in 1838 and settled themselves on the Sanders or Wheelock Farm. When the 1840 and 1850 census reports were taken, Ezra and Hannah, with Hannah's sister, Sarah Granger were living at home. Their son Franklin lived nearby.
Ezra died at Cavendish 5 April, 1856 (age 85). Hannah died of congestion of the lungs at Cavendish 5 Oct., 1867 (age 91). http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/putnam/3504/
