There are/were two Hoss Family Cemeteries on Fairview Avenue. One in the 400 block is visible, but the one where Johnson City, Founder Henry Johnson was originally buried is in the 1400 block and is completely gone and no trace of it exists. (Johnson City, Washington County, TN)

Located at the end of the alley in the 400 block between Fairview and Myrtle Ave, Johnson City, TN. The cemetery has recently been cleared of brush and some trash. Known Burials:

  • Hoss, Franklin, 1818 - 1863 Same stone as wife, Nancy Range Hoss
  • Hoss, Nancy Range, 1825 -1906 Same stone as Franklin Hoss, "His wife"
  • Hoss, George, May 22, 1860 - October 23, 1890 Stone is broken and lying on the ground’ Aged 30 Yrs. 5 Mos.
  • Hoss, Abraham, No date - April 15, 1862’ Aged 80 years
  • Hoss, -Franc (Frances) No date - Nov. 29, 1849’ "Consort of Abraham Hoss" Aged 64 Years. Stone is broken

This cemetery is on land once belonging to Jacob Hoss, Revolutionary War veteran and one of the area’s earliest settlers.

  • Nancy Range Hoss married 2nd to Daniel W. Crumley, 6 Aug 1871 as his 2nd wife.
  • Abraham Hoss is the son of Jacob & Elizabeth Hoss.
  • Franklin Hoss was the son of Abraham & Frances Hoss.

WCCL: There are ten graves, five marked and five unmarked. The stone of Jacob Hoss is presumed to be the one that is unreadable. There is no date on it, but the old brick house of Abraham Hoss, near the cemetery is dated 1822. Frances, consort of Abraham Hoss, died Nov. 29, 1849. A Hoss descendant said that Jacob Hoss and wife, Elizabeth Boon are buried in unmarked graves. [Mary Hardin McCown]
