About Jacob Andrew Hottel
acob Hottel was a Lt. Colonel in the Confederacy in the Civil War, 136th Virginia Militia, C.S.A., also known as 3rd Regiment, 7th Brigade, Virginia Militia. He was discharged on a petition of Officers at Camp Fair Grounds, Winchester, Virginia on 23 August 1864. He had a fine reputation as a farmer and served with ability as constable and sheriff of his county prior to the Civil War. He resided two and one-half milessoutheast of Woodstock on part of Henry Fravel's estate, where seven children were born He was an influential member of the Reformed Church (History of the Descendants of John Hottel pp. 569-570).
