About Jacob (Jack) Alexander

Jacob Alexander sailed from England to Australia, with his family on the "Samuel Plimsol" in 1877. His place of residence, as shown on the passenger list was Northumberland UK.

His address recorded on the birth certificate of his son, Abraham Alexander, was Pearsons Corner, Westgate Rd, Newcastle (UK)

Jacob was born in Prussia.

It was thought that the Jacob Alexander who died in Sydney in 1924 could not be the same Jacob Alexander as he was buried in the Presbyterian (Independent) section of Rookwood Cemetery. Theresa's 1906 Death Certificate (Abraham Alexander - informant) indicates they lived in Victoria and Jacob was known to have been chasing the goldrushes. Also, if Jacob had been alive and living with the family in Sydney in 1906 it is unlikely that younges son Abraham would have been the informant who arranged Theresa's funeral? In 1913 Abraham stated on his Marriage Certificate that his father was deceased. A chance contact in 2011 with descendants of the Buckingham family (Rosetta was the firswt wife of Myer - Jacob's eldest son) reveals Myer and Jacob both lived in Petersham, Jacob died at a Presbyterian nursing home in Petersham and was buried apprently without Abraham's knowledge or consent by non family members in the now Independent Section of Rookwood Cemetery. Myer's second wife was not Jewish and it appears that Myer denounced all ties with Judaism and he and all his children were buried in non-Jewish cemeteries. - Research by Adrian Alexander
