Jacob Loeb and his family lived in an estate in Cheltenham, Pa. — a suburb of Philadelphia. In the 1880's, Jacob built a mansion in the French Renaissance style on 59 acres of land. He called the estate "Shifra." After his death, his widow, Therese, continued to live there. In 1891, Gabriel Blum and Ralph Blum, brothers, married two of Jacob and Therese's daughters (Jeanette Loeb and Martha Washington Loeb respectively) and all of them lived in the house. In 1916, the Ogontz Land Management Company owned by W.T.B. Roberts bought the property for development purposes. The house was demolished in the 1920's.
