Jacob was the youngest son of his father Abba and his second wife Dinah Pomerance. He left Russia in 1901 to join his brothers in New York.
Here he was in various stationery businesses, and in 1903 married Fanny Levy (died in 1958).
Jacob spent many years away from his wife and children, but returned home where he died on 9th January 1962.
He was buried in the Kaye family plot of the New Montefiore Cemetry, Pine Laen, Long Island,
During his lifetime, he shortened his surname to Katzen, and his children adopted the name Kaye or Kay.
