About Jacob Shem King
- Jake & Ellie lived the first winter with Jake's parents where they lived with his mother and helped Dan E Yoder, his brother-in-law in the carpenter shop. He made some furniture for himself and Ellie. In the spring they began farming and after four years moved to the Watt farm for six years. From there they bought the Joe Wilson farm and lived there about 18 years until son Paul was married in 1944 and took over the farm. Jake & Ellie then moved to West Main Street in Belleville. Jake did carpenter work with his brother Rufus and while hanging a storm door at the home of a neighbor, he passed away suddenly of a heart attack. (KgSa p.10) - King ? Jacob S., son of Samuel and Elizabeth Zook King, was born in Lawrence Co., Pa., July 21, 1888; departed this life Dec. 15, 1945, at his home in Belleville, Pa.; aged 57 y. 4 m. 24 d. He seemed to be in good health and was actively engaged at work at the home of his next door neighbor. Feeling ill, he went home and in a short time passed away as the result of a heart attack. In his youth he with his parents, brothers, and sisters moved from New Wilmington, Pa., to Belleville, where he united with the Locust Grove Church. On Nov. 30, 1915, he was united in marriage to Ella J. Byler, who survives. He also leaves 4 daughters and 2 sons (Effie ? Mrs. Aaron Yoder; Verna ? Mrs. Erie Renno; Paul, living on the home farm; Ruth, Lydia, and Jacob S., Jr., at home), 6 grandchildren, 3 brothers (Rufus and Ephraim, of Belleville; and Abram, Allensville, Pa.), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Daniel E. Yoder, of Belleville; and Margaret ? Mrs. Ben Moose, of New Wilmington). His genial personality will be missed not only in the family but in the church and community in which he labored. Funeral services were conducted at the home by John B. Zook and at the Locust Grove Church by John B. Zook and Emanuel B. Peachey. Burial was made in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
