SIOUX COUNTY PIONEER DIES AT INWOOD FRI. Jacob Luinstra, 94, a Sioux county pioneer who was featured in The News two weeks ago, died Friday, September 14, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Meendering, with whom he had made his home for the past two years in Inwood. Funeral services were held at the Christian Reformed church in Inwood Tuesday and burial was at the Hope cemetery at Hull. Arrangements were under the direction of the Cooperative Burial association of Sioux Center. Jacon Luinstra was born at Aud Waude, Friesland, Netherlands, March 25, 1857, and came to this country in 1883, arriving in Orange City with his first wife and daughter Annie. Another daughter, Margie, was born to this union and she preceded him in death. Following the death of his first wife, he married Jennie Mellema and they made their home on a farm near Hull. After leaving Hull he made his home with his daughter Alice in Inwood. He was a charter membber of the First Reformed church of Hull and latera member of the Christian Reformed churches in Middleburg, Doon and Inwood. He was preceded in death by his second wife. Survivors include six sons and one daughter, Peter of South Gate, Calif., Martin of Breuster, Minn., Dewey of Beaver Creek, Minn., Robert of Heron Lake, Minn., John of Norwalk, Calif., Mitchell of Visalia, Calif., and Mrs. Alice Meendering. Also surviving are 23 grandchildrenand 16 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Gerrit Vander Plaats, Doon, Iowa. Source: Sioux Center News, Sept. 20, 1951. * * * * * * * * * * Another obituary (Sioux County Index, Hull, Sept. 20, 1951) opens with this information: Relatives and friends in Hull received word that Mr. Luinstra died unexpectedly Friday at the home of his daughter, Alice (Mrs. Peter Meendering) at Inwood. He had gone to the bath-room at six o'clock, and at about nine Mrs. Meendering went in to the bedroom to see him and found him dead. This obituary also notes that one of the grandchildren is Mrs. LawrenceVander Haak of Hull, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Meendering. * * * * * * * * * * The feature referred to in the Sioux Center News obituary consists of a photograph with caption (Sioux Center News, Aug. 30, 1951, p. 1)
