According to the PRI records on Jewish Gen, Jacob (Jankiel) born in 1875 was actually the son of Liba Ginda and Mortchaj, not of Sula and Mortchaj.
Here's what Dr. Neil Rosenstein wrote about Jacob Margolis in The Margolis Family (narrative, page 24-25):
Son of Mordecai (Marcus) Margolis and Hilda (Liba Hinda) Sterling. Married Fannie Frankel on 21 January 1907 in Peoria, Illinois.
"Jacob was eighteen when he arrived in Dayton from Pzerosl in 1892. A few years later (about 1905) he was working as a clothier together with his brother Samuel under the name of Margolis Brothers. This later became the Globe Clothing Co. In 1910 he and Samuel started the furniture business of Victor Furniture Company with Samuel as president and Jacob as secretary and treasury, which position he held until his death. He was also at one time secretary of the Booth Furniture Co. and in 1922 secretary and treasurer of the Dayton Furniture Co. In 1932 he was vice-president of the King Credit Tire Co. 'In the various charity organizations of the city he was a diligent worker and held office in several of the groups," wrote the Dayton Daily News obiturary (Nov. 14, 1937 page 1). He was a former vice-president, trustee and member of the Temple Israel and treasurer of the Jewish Federation for Social Services. 'In addition to his activities in the social service department of these institutions, Mr. Margolis was always active in Community Chest campaigns.'
He married the daughter of his father's first cousin.
The newspaper obituary gives his birth as Sept. 16, 1874, the death certificate as Sept. 17, 1876 and the official Russian document on the occasion of his birth as 1875. The cause of death was coronary thrombosis and he was buried in the reform Jewish cemetery in Dayton.
