A pioneer Nolalu resident, Jacob Salmi, 80, dies in Port Arthur hospital last evening after a brief illness. Born in Ilmajoke, Finland, he came to Canada around the turn of the century to be one of the pioneer Nolalu residents. His wife, Maria, predeceased him in 1937 and one son, Anton, was killed in action in Holland while serving with the Lake Superior Regiment in 1945. Survivi ng are two sons and four daughters. The sons are Thomas and Svante, both of Nolalu. The daughters are Mary, Mrs. M. Tuveson, St. Vital, Man.; Tynne, Mrs. August Erickson, 506 Dawson St., Port Arthur; Lempi, Mrs. Wilho Maki, Nolalu; Enni, Mrs. Waino Pakka, Nolalu. There are 13 grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Everest funeral chapel to the Finnish Organizational Hall at Nolalu for services at 2 p.m. Rev. J. W. Sippola of the Finnish Lutheran church will officiate. Interment will be in the cemetery at Nolalu.
