About Jacob J. Schale

Obituary for Jacob S. Schale from the Fairview Republican [Oklahoma], May 27, 1915:

Jacob Schale Dead

Jacob Schale, one of the most respected German citizens of Major County, died suddenly Tuesday morning of heart failure at his home a mile east of Fairview. He had risen to do the day's work as usual but complained of not feeling well and lying down again. In a moment, he was dead.

Jacob Schale was born in South Russia in 1870 and came to America with his parents at ten. In 1894, he married Florence Seibel, and nine children were born to their union, five sons and four daughters. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Schale came to Oklahoma and settled in Major County. In the seventeen years that he lived here, he won a place of high regard in the hearts of his neighbors, and his death is a distinct loss to the community.

The funeral will be held at the South Mennonite Church, on Friday at two p.m.

Obituary for Jacob S. Schale from the Fairview Republican [Oklahoma], May 29, 1915:

The community was shocked when the word was sent out early Tuesday morning that Jacob Schale had died at his home one mile east of town. He had been in town just the evening before and seemed in the best health, jolly, and spirits. It was heart failure.

Jacob Schale was born in South Russia on February 23, 1870. His parents came to the United States, on June 20, 1880, and settled near Hillsboro, Kansas. There he married Florence Seibel, on September 2, 1894. Right after the wedding, they came to Oklahoma, settling on a homestead, six miles northwest of Fairview, which he had secured in the opening of the Strip. After living there for 16 years, he sold the old homestead and bought the present home, where he died on May 25th, at 44 years, 3 months, and 2 days.

He leaves a wife and nine children, five sons and four daughters, five sisters, his stepmother, and two half brothers with a great host of friends to mourn his untimely death.

Mr. Schale has always been an active worker in the church of his belief. Besides being identified with anything that went to make this country a better place to live, he always helped in public improvements and at his death was a member of the township board of Fairview township. He was regarded as a model citizen, and his presence will be missed in public life.

The funeral services will be conducted at the South Mennonite church, on Friday afternoon by Rev. M.M. After that, the body will rest in that cemetery.
