About Jacob Souder

It is likely that Jacob Souders parents were Mennonites from Hirzel, in northeast Switzerland, near Zurich. It is believed that they were forced to leave because of their Anabaptist beliefs.Souders means one who sews leather in Swiss, usually a cobbler or shoemaker. In 1991, Jane Evans Best proposed that Jacob Souder (d. 1734) descends through the 14th century vassal Ulrich Suter, of the estate Suterhofes, located in Zimmerberg, just north of Hirzel, Switzerland. Between 1648 and 1660, the Anabaptists of Hirzel all moved to Alsace or Pfalz.
